Frank Borrington vs. Tony Arpino
Frank Borrington beat Tony Arpino by TKO in round 5 of 15
- Date: 1933-12-18
- Location: King's Hall, Derby, Derbyshire, United Kingdom
"A fight between Frank Borrington (Derby) and Tony Arpino (Bedford) resulted in Borrington defeating the latter in the fifth round of a scheduled fifteen round contest at the Derby Baths on Monday night. The referee stopped the contest when Arpino's right hand became useless. Arpino sustained the injury in the fourth round, but with commendable pluck he continued to fight on, although only able to use his left hand. Borrington, suspecting a trap was unusually cautious, but punished Arpino with perfect body punches. Prior to this Arpino was full of fight and scored very useful points with his left. Borrington, however was the more forceful fighter, and several times had Arpino groggy with counter punches from both gloves. It afterwards transpired that Arpino had fractured a bone."
