Amateur Frank Carlson, age 19 died of injuries sustained during a July 27, 1902 bout with George Baldwin at Portland, OR, USA.
The youths had a quarrel over a girl, and they decided to settle it with a bare knuckle fight that was watched by friends and relatives. Carlson was knocked down by a blow to the stomach, and died on the spot. Baldwin and his father, who had encouraged the fight, were sent to prison on manslaughter charges.
