"Irish Frankie Crawford scored a stunning 6th round knockdown and was awarded a 7th round knockout over Kenji Imai of Tokyo Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium. Crawford, Los Angeles, was pinned against the ropes in the early moments of the 6th round but was able to escape and turned the action around. He caught Imai with a stiff left hook that dropped the visitor for an eight count. The 7th opened quickly with Imai rushing out of his corner but he caught another left that opened a cut inside his mouth. Referee George Latka then halted the bout with 1:17 gone in the round and awarded Crawford the victory. Imai was the aggressor throughout but Crawford stayed away and counter-punched to build up a 3-1 edge in the first five rounds. He also won the 6th with the knockdown." -Associated Press
