"The boxer outslugged the slugger Thursday night at the Olympic Auditorium as quick-handed Frankie Crawford renewed his bid for a shot at the featherweight title with a 10 round decision over Pasadenan Tony Alvarado. Crawford, coming out fast to battle his way out of a two-fight losing streak, had his foe on the deck in the 1st round, then followed with two more knockdowns, in the 6th and at the final bell, to turn in an impressive performance. Alvarado tried to keep the pressure on Crawford from the beginning, but a sharp long left jab and devastating counter-punching combinations kept him off balance throughout most of the fight." -Pasadena Star-News
