The July 5, 1960 Oakland Tribune, reported that Denny had died of a heart attack on Sunday (July 3) in his home in Sonoma, CA. A popular fighter in Oakland during the four-round era, Denny claimed in excess of 200 fights in a career that started in 1915.

Denny had retired to his home in Sonoma, two years before, after suffering several heart attacks. Prior to this, he had been the part-owner of the Eastshore Inn in Berkeley, along with his brother-in-law Johnny Munro, a former Bay Area fight promoter.

Denny was reported to be 62 at the time of his death.
