"Tommy Tibbs, the squat Bostonian who has won 43 and lost 46, dropped a narrow but unanimous 10 round decision to Frankie Ryff of NY in a fight at St. Nick's Arena. A low left in the 8th cost Tibbs the round and probably the fight. He had been warned in the 4th for a below-the-belt punch. The pro Ryff fans were happy their Bronx boy won his fifth straight decision to make his record 26-5. Tibbs,a ring gypsy who will travel anywhere for a fight, had done well in previous NY appearances. It was difficult to understand why he had lost so many times." -Associated Press
- Judge Mike Davidowitch actually scored it 5-5 in rounds, but with supplemental points, he scored it 6-5 for Ryff.
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 7-3 Tibbs
- Unofficial poll of 10 boxing writers had all 10 scoring it for Tibbs
