Fox and Lenhart were to rematch on August 16th at the same venue. Lenhart and his manager Joe Waterman claimed he was in no condition to take this fight. That claim became more suspicious considering that Lenhart fought Ford Smith in Seattle on August 21st. Originally both fighters had agreed to fight a second bout for promoter Chuck Snyder, with the name of the opponent left blank. When Fox's name was filled in as Lenhart's opponent, Lenhart balked, claiming he was drawing the color line. Some wire reports indicated that this decision was controversial, however all three Spokane Papers (Spokesman-Review, Chronicle, Press) had Lenhart a clear winner, as he outboxed and outworked Fox.
