- Date: 1945-02-22
- Location: Civic Auditorium, San Francisco, California, USA
- Referee: Toby Irwin
Abe Phillips and Charles Kelso were found guilty of offering bribes to Jackie Cooper to induce him not to put forth his best efforts in this fight. Cooper testified that he had been told Freddie Dixon would lose the fight in the 8th round, but in order to shift the betting in Dixon's favour during the fight he would have to lose the first two rounds. For doing this, Cooper was to receive $1000. Cooper accepted this offer, but refused to accept $4000 for losing the fight entirely. When Cooper went to collect the $1000, Phillips and Kelso were unwilling to pay him, as Cooper had become the betting favourite to win the fight, and now offered him $7000 to lose the fight entirely. According to Cooper, he again refused to accept the offer but did admit to not putting forth his best efforts in the first two rounds of the fight.
