In a bout involving former world champions held at Camp Lejeune, Lightweight Johnnie Edwards beat former WBA World Featherweight Champion Freddie Norwood in a rematch of a bout won by Edwards last year when Norwood was disqualified for low blows. The rematch appeared even until round 3, when Norwood, 38, was cut over the left eye by an unintentional headbutt. The fight was allowed to continue, and Norwood was decked by a left hook. Edwards began landing jabs and hooks consistently from that point on. Norwood was again cut, this time over the right eye in round 5 from an Edwards right hook. A left hook from Edwards in round 7 knocked out Norwood for the ten count at 2:57.
