Fritzie Zivic 144 lbs beat Lew Jenkins 138 lbs by TKO in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1942-05-25
  • Location: Forbes Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
  • Referee: Ernie Sesto

The Pennsylvania Boxing Commission's doctor refused to allow Jenkins to come out for the 10th, his face "a bloody mask." There was "no question of Zivic's superiority over a willing but pitifuly inept shadow of the Jenkins who a few years ago zoomed to a title with a pair of dynamiting fists." (Associated Press)

"Zivic won as he pleased and that was by a country mile. He cut Jenkins' eye and the commission physician stepped in in the tenth round and called a halt. It was the top ten-rounder of an all-star show at Forbes Field, the first of the outdoor season.... Despite the threatening weather, the bout drew a crowd of 12,134 fans, who paid a gross of $31,686.50. It was sponsored by the Rooney-McGinnley Boxing Club, with Jacob Mintz in the matchmaker's seat." Ring Magazine: August 1942, p. 63.

  • The reason why Jenkins was not allowed out for the 10th was due to a cut over his left eye.
  • The UP had Zivic winning 7 of the 9 completed rounds.
  • Jenkins was down for a one-count in the 8th round.
  • This card's proceeds were donated to the Army-Navy Relief Fund.
