- Date: 1958-02-14
- Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
- Referee: Larry Napp 4-5
- Judge: Frank Forbes 5-4
- Judge: Artie Aidala 6-4
The decision was not well received by the Madison Square Garden crowd of around 3,000. Stefen forced the action all the way and most observers had him winning six rounds. A disputed knockdown in the sixth swayed the decision in Kerwin’s favor. After a long right hand punch landed on the back of his neck he went to his glove tips but was up immediately. The referee ruled it a knockdown. NY Times Reporter Joseph C Nichols scored the fight 6-4 for Redl. (Source NY Times, 2/15/1958)
