- On July 28th of 1983, Melo, along with his cornermen Travis Sugden, Dave Carnie and Ross Citro were charged with conspiracy under the Criminal Code concerning this June 9th fight at the Canadian National Exhibition Coliseum for what appeared to be glove tampering (during the 4th round Melo's glove burst open causing a delay to the fight for 12 minutes while new gloves were brought in). Although details of the August 9th hearing are not known, the result of the bout was changed to a No-Contest.
