"Gaspar Ortega, a windmill puncher who fought in spurts here Friday night, scored a close but unanimous decision over game Kid Rayo, Nicaragua, in the 10 round feature of a charity boxing show at Municipal Auditorium. There were no knockdowns and neither fighter was ever in serious trouble, although a left to the chin sent Rayo reeling late in the 3rd round. Rayo's best round was the 6th when he nailed Ortega, of Mexicali, Mexico, with a smashing right to the chin and then followed with a left in the 6th. But the world's 8th-ranked welterweight recovered quickly and moved in with looping lefts to take charge before the round was over." -San Antonio Express
