"Gene Fullmer, Salt Lake City, won a unanimous decision over Del Flanagan, St. Paul, before 2,278 payees in the Butte Civic Center Tuesday night. It was a mean, vicious fight but ringsiders were generally of the opinion that Fullmer, who has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Bobo Olson, world's middleweight champ, in September, must acquire considerable more polish before attempting to trade leather with the titleholder. Flanagan, a clever boxer, lost prestige and points alike with his wrestling tactics. He was warned once in the 8th round concerning this style of fighting, but to some observers it was apparent that Fullmer was somewhat to blame because of his style of attack." -Butte Montana Standard
