Savage, a former sparring partner of Fullmer, provided little action as he fought mostly out of a shell. Fullmer attempted to get Savage out of shell to little success, hitting him on the arms and shoulders, while landing some blows to the ribs and head. Savage had his best round in the 6th, but slipped to the canvas when caught off balance in the 7th round. Fullmer buckled Savage's knees briefly in the 9th and 10th rounds Savage finished the bout with a small cut on his cheek, while Fullmer had a mouse under his left eye.
