George Benton 163 lbs beat Bobby Warthen 158 lbs by TKO at 1:58 in round 1 of 10

  • Date: 1968-09-24
  • Location: Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
  • Referee: John Fitzpatrick

"George Benton, veteran Philadelphia middleweight, came out in that calm way of his and tossed out a left jab which jerked Bobby Warthem's head soon after the bell in the 1st round. George jabbed once more, threw a hook off the same punch, and followed with three consecutive jabs. There was no doubt that the Buffalo boxer was in trouble. Benton hit him with a right cross and then propelled a left hook to Warthem's face. Bobby dropped to the canvas and took an eight count. As he staggered to his feet, referee John Fitzpatrick stopped the fight." -Ring Magazine, January 1969 issue
