"Johnny Morris stepped into the ring Tuesday night and outboxed highly-ranked George Benton of Philadelphia to win a unanimous decision in 12 rounds. The stylish Morris of Pittsburgh, utilized a stiff jab and a pair of limber legs to stave off Benton and retain his Pennsylvania middleweight title. For the first five rounds, the confident Morris outboxed Benton. He moved from side to side, using a long left and never gave the Philly gladiator a chance to use his powerful fists. Benton made his presence felt in the 6th round with a jarring right to the nose and a damaging left hook to Morris' head. Benton also troubled Morris in the next three rounds but Morris started coming back toward the end of the session. Finally, Morris resumed boxing to gain an edge.
