Christian was reportedly born in Ohio, but may have taken up Canadian citizenship while fighting out of Montreal. In April of 1917(Christian was 26 years old) his manager at that time, Biddy Bishop, also manager of Canadian middleweight champion Billy Weeks, was trying to promote a match between his man and Battling Levinsky for the world light heavyweight title. Christian was said to be able to make 168. In April of 1917 Bishop claimed the following record for Christian: Total Bouts - 46, Won - 42, KOs - 26, Referee's Decision wins - 15, Draws - 2.


A scheduled fight between Christian and Quebec City's Spike Sullivan on Saturday Dec 10, 1921 was cancelled due to a dispute over the purse.


George Christian , an african-american, spent several months in California during the first half of 1917, before returning to Utah (where he was living) in July 1917. By May 1918, the Utah papers were reporting that he had enlisted in the Navy and stationed at the naval training station at San Diego.

Shortly after enlisting, Christian suffered a bout of pneumonia. In July 1918, while still on furlough in Utah, he received a letter notifying him that he had been discharged for medical reasons.
