  • Date: 1968-11-12
  • Location: Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • Referee: Harry Davis

"Local hero George Chuvalo was frustrated for six rounds but found the mark in the 7th Tuesday night when he battered his way to a TKO over Italian heavyweight Dante Cane. Cane surprised the crowd of 10,000 by putting up a game battle. The 6'4" giant from Bologna scored well with a long left jab, and in the 5th round opened a small cut under the Canadian champion's right eye. Chuvalo didn't land any solid blows until the 4th round when he jolted Cane with a left hook. The bout looked as though it might go the distance in the 7th when Chuvalo suddenly caught Cane with the right. The big Italian buckled and fell through the ropes onto the ring apron. He gamely climbed into the ring and got to his feet. Chuvalo met him with a flurry of left and right hooks and Cane went sprawling. The Italian's manager threw in the towel at this point." -United Press International

  • Prior to this bout, Chuvalo was already signed to fight Buster Mathis in Madison Square Garden on December 6th, which was eventually post-poned until the following February.
