"George Chuvalo, Toronto, Monday night pounded out a unanimous 10 round decision over Julio Mederos from Cuba. Chuvalo, registering his ninth victory in 11 pro bouts, floored his Cuban opponent twice in the 2nd round but could not follow up the advantage. Mederos was downed for a count of three by a looping left hook. A few seconds later the 20 year old Toronto fighter drove Mederos into the ropes and floored him with a right cross. Referee Jim Braddock, former heavyweight champion of the world, reached a count of four when Mederos regained his feet." -Associated Press
