"Canadian heavyweight George Chuvalo, 224, scored repeatedly with left and right combinations and finally stopped Mike Boswell in the 7th round of their scheduled 10 rounder Tuesday night. The Toronto veteran dominated the early action. Boswell, a Youngstown, Ohio fighter came in at 205. He changed his stance from right to left in the 3rd round and confused Chuvalo temporarily, scoring with left jabs. But by the 4th round, Chuvalo recovered and kept Boswell against the ropes landing combinations almost at will." -Associated Press

  • This bout was originally scheduled for Indianapolis, Indiana at the Exposition Center on August 24th. However, David Ott, chairman of the Cleveland Boxing and Wrestling Commission, stated that Chuvalo was suspended in June, claiming he backed out of a June 13th bout with Earnie Shavers. Chuvalo's manager Irv Ungerman stated, "We have never received notification from the WBA indicating that George is suspended. We canceled the Shavers bout 2 weeks in advance because George had a bad back. Medical certificates were forwarded to the proper authorities at the time. Someone in Cleveland is trying to make a little bit of noise." The August 24th card in Indianapolis proceeded with Vicente Rondon fighting Boswell in place of Chuvalo.
