George Harting: circa 1913

George Harting was a well-known boxing timekeeper of the late 1800s/early 1900s.

Harting was born in Poland circa 1850. Around 1880 he went to Australia, where he did he first ring time keeping. He'd keep watch in bouts between soldiers and Maoris. In October 1886 he came to the United States with Peter Jackson, and settled in San Francisco.

Harting was the timekeeper for such well-known bouts as James J. Corbett vs. Bob Fitzsimmons and Jack Johnson vs. James J. Jeffries, among others.
