Ingersoll arrived in Astoria in 1924, and would go on to be the biggest attraction in Astoria's boxing history. He worked as a longshoreman outside of the ring, and left Astoria in 1945, and continued working in California as a longshoreman in Eureka, Stockton, and later San Francisco.
