George Paris, a black man, had been in Paris, France with World Champion Jack Johnson when World War I broke out. He was a former boxer himself and a trainer. By the early 1920s, he was living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where he also refereed boxing matches, including at least one amateur bout between Jimmy McLarnin and Mickey Gill for the Amateur Featherweight Title of British Columbia.

He was also a jazz musician, quite well respected in the industry later in his life. After his active career ended as a fighter, he trained the police force of Montreal, Quebec, in boxing.

He may be the George Paris who was a very early 1900s Seattle-area manager of boxer Ed Hagen.
