George M. Rother was born August 20, 1900, in Emeryville, Alameda County, CA. His family moved to Portland, Oregon after the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. He was a member of the Oregon National Guard and on their marksmanship team that competed nationally in 1925. The team won and so did Rother.
He married Anita C. Kuhnau on July 3, 1934, and raised four sons. He died in Coquille, Oregon, on August 4, 1968.
