George Salamone was the 1938 Massachusetts Featherweight Golden Glove champ according to The Lowell Sun 25th, Jan 1938. He would then go on to represent Boston in the Intercity Championships. Salamone represented East Boston and defeated Jack Hurd of Boston.

In the Fitchburg Sentinel of 7th December 1937, there is a report of George winning over Buster Miller of Washington to secure a place as the Featherweight on the Eastern Team of the All-American Tournament. The team would go on from there to compete against teams from the south, mid-west and west.

The Lewiston Daily News 26 Nov 1937, has him beating Roland Laflamme of Berlin Catholic Boys Boxing Club of New Hampshire in an earlier round of the All-American tournament.
