Famous bare knuckle boxer of mid-18th century.

Some sources wrote that Stevenson died from injuries sustained in the ring, in an April 24, 1741 bout with Jack Broughton at London, England. This information is incorrect, and early books, such as Captain Godfrey's Treatise, Boxiana and Pugilistica make no mention of Stevenson's death as the result of that bout. According to contemporary London newspapers Broughton beat Stevenson on April 24, 1744, in 8.5 minutes. A year later Stevenson had another reported bout, with Anthony Jones (source: The General Advertiser, 1745-04-09). During November 1748 Stevenson, together with Broughton, Taylor, Slack, Smallwood and Field, was among the pall-bearers at the funeral of pugilist John James (The Whitehall Evening-Post Or London Intelligencer, 1748-11-26).
