"Gerrie Coetzee, 217 1/4, of South Africa knocked out Scott LeDoux, 228, of Minneapolis, Minn., in the 8th round of a scheduled 10-round heavyweight fight Saturday night. Coetzee, 5th ranked contender, pummeled LeDoux from the start with stinging left jabs and hooks and opened a bad cut next to LeDoux's left eye in the 4th round. Dominant throughout, Coetzee chased LeDoux around the ring in the 8th, landing combinations of lefts and rights and finally dropping LeDoux with a left hook. With the victory, Coetzee hoped to move closer to another shot at WBA titleholder Mike Weaver." -Associated Press
