- Date: 1986-05-31
- Location: Cow Palace, Daly City, California, USA
- Referee: Rudy Ortega
"Gerry Cooney knocked out Eddie Gregg at 1:26 of the opening round Saturday. Gregg, as expected, went toe-to-toe with Cooney at the opening bell of the scheduled 10 round bout. Cooney got the better of the exchanges right from the start, however, nailing Gregg to the head and body with left hooks and uppercuts. A left uppercut by Cooney left Gregg wide open for the hook that put him down on his back. Gregg beat the count but referee Rudy Ortega would not let him continue." -Eureka Times-Standard
- Purses: Cooney - $300,000, Gregg - $50,000

- "I was well-conditioned. This was one of the fights I've trained best for. Eddie Gregg is a good puncher. He's got a lot of guts, and you have to be concerned about a fighter like that." -Gerry Cooney
- "As you saw, I went to the canvas, and that speaks for itself. I'm going to come back and keep going. Eddie Gregg is not finished. I thought I could continue. I really did." -Eddie Gregg
