"California welterweight champion Gil King, 147, Van Nuys, Calif., floored Cyclone Barth, 149, San Jose, Calif., with a long overhand right for a 7th round knockout Saturday night in a scheduled 10 round non-title fight. King was knocked down in the 2nd round and was behind on points when he put away the former Nigerian 147-pound champion. Referee George Latka stopped the bout at 2:38 of the round after Barth was down for a count of eight, got up and was staggered into the ropes by King's flurry of rights and lefts. Until then, Barth gave more punishment than received, including a crushing right that knocked King to his knees for a count of three early in the 2nd." -Associated Press
