"Sharp-shooting Bobby Dykes of Miami blazed from behind last night to squeeze out a split decision over Gil Turner of Philadelphia in a rip-roaring 10 rounder at MSG. Floored in the 5th round for a count of eight, Dykes came on to chop out his victory in a thunderous finish. Dykes opened a cut over Turner's left eye in the 3rd round, tore a gash over Gil's right cheekbone in the 5th, and had him bleeding from the mouth in the last two rounds." -Associated Press

- Dykes and Turner had a rematch clause in the contract, which was to take place within 40 days in Philadelphia, but did not take place until the following January.
- Turner's facial injuries required a total of 10 stitches.
