"Twenty year old Gil Turner, who only a year ago was an amateur champion, was in the market today for a shot at the world welterweight championship after knocking out contender Charlie Fusari in 11 rounds. Time and again Turner speared Fusari with a left to the eye and then ripped short hooks to the head. Fusari's eyes were puffed and his nose bleeding when he was hit by a short, chopping right in the 11th round and went down for the full count. He was on one knee, struggling to rise when he was counted out at the :58 second mark." -United Press
- Turner won every round on the UP's scorecard except for the 8th round when Fusari dropped Turner with a short right to the jaw and a left which landed on Turner's shoulder.
