Gilles Elbilia, the son of boxer Daniel Elbilia, was both French and European welterweight champion.
He participated in the 1977 World Maccabiah Games, winning a Silver medal as a Light Welterweight.
He won the French national Welterweight Title in late 1982 and the EBU European Welterweight Title in 1983.
In 1984 he was the # 9th ranked welterweight in the world after his upset win over Nino LaRocca who was 57-0 at the time.
Elbilia then challenged Milton McCrory for the WBC welterweight championship of the world. He retired shortly after losing that fight.
