Notes
- Haugen's purse was $500,000, and Mancini's was $450,000.
- This was Mancini's first fight in three years and just his second fight in seven years. He retired for good after losing to Haugen.
- The New York Times reported: "From the opening bell, it was clear that Mancini no longer had a snap to his punches or the timing to land them. By the end of the bout, his face was badly distorted from the swelling beneath his left eye. Haugen was never hurt by any of Mancini's punches. ... The end came late in the seventh round when Mancini missed a right hand that left him exposed. Haugen threw a jab and then a thumping right to Mancini's head, sending the 31-year-old Mancini sprawling into the ropes and onto the canvas. Mancini struggled to stand, his left arm entangled in the ropes. Although Mancini beat the count, Referee Mills Lane decided that Mancini was in no condition to continue."
