"Gregorio Peralta, who suffered a 4-stitch cut on his upper left eyelid while outsmarting Fresno's Wayne Thornton, weighed 180 1/4 to Thornton's 173 1/2. Their nationally televised 10 rounder was an excellent fight in which the unanimous decision stretched Peralta's unbeaten string to 47 consecutive bouts. There were no knockdowns, but Peralta used more ringcraft this time to baffle the aggressive Thornton." -United Press International
