According to U.S. Census Records on the Ancestry.com website:

During 1910, an 18-year-old native of Wisconsin named August Kupkowski lived with his parents, Mathew and Victoria Kupkowski, both natives of the Polish part of Germany; two brothers; and four sisters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mathew, 59, had his own income while August worked as an "Assist. Janitor" in a "church." One of August's sisters work as "Candy maker" in a "Candy wks" while another one may done the same type of work.

An article in the Buffalo Enq., Mar 13, 1916, states the courts had legally changed his name from August Kupowski to Gus Christie.

During 1930, a 38-year-old native of Wisconsin named Gustave Christie, a 33-year-old native of Wisconsin; his wife, Marie; and a 3-year-old son, Gustave Jr. lived in Shorewood, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin during 1930. At the time, Gustave Sr. was a "physical instructor" for an "athletic society." The Christie family owned their home, which was valued at $8,800.

During 1940, a 47-year-old native of Wisconsin named Gus R. Christie; his wife; a son, Gustave Jr.; and a 9-year-old daughter, Rosemary lived in Shorewood, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. Gus worked as an "athletic director" at the "Milwaukee Athletic Club," earning $2,325. while working 50 weeks during 1939.
