Exhibitions and No Contests
Below research courtesy of Eric Bottjer:
On May 24, 1894, Ruhlin won a 3-round decision in an amateur match over Tom Masterson in Akron at Excelsior Athletic Club.
Ruhlin fought a 3-round exhibition with Patrick Lewis on Oct. 25, 1894, in Akron at the Excelsior Athletic Club (Akron Beacon Journal). "Ruhlin too heavy for his opponent and succeeded in getting in the most blows."
Ruhlin fought a 3-round exhibition with an S. Costigan on May 10, 1894 in Akron at the Excelsior Athletic Club
Ruhlin fought a 4-round No Decision bout with a Jack Cattonache on Sept. 13, 1894 in Akron at Columbia Hall. There is a "Jack Cattanach" who was active during this time, but he is listed from Providence while "Cattonache" was advertised out of Cleveland. No indication if this was amateur or pro. "Cattonache" had better of it, so it's possibly same guy. Cattanach ended up 1-6 as a pro, but good enough to fight Choynski and Steve O'Donnell during this time, so not a surprise he would have had the better of Ruhlin, who was a novice at this point.
June 8, 1894, Ruhlin fought 4-round NoDecision with Jimmy Woods at Cleveland in Akron at Columbia Hall. Ruhlin "had to chase him all over the ring." (Akron Beacon Journal).
Jan. 25, 1895, at Akron Excelsior Club, Ruhlin had a 4-round No Decision match with Lawrence Williams of Hoboken, New Jersey (Akron Beacon Journal).
Sept. 12, 1895, Ruhlin fought 4-round No Decision with "Doc" Payne of Cleveland at the Akron Academy of Music.
April 20, 1986, Ruhlin fought at 3-round EX with a H.A. Lawrence at the Akron Gymnasium Club (Akron Beacon Journal).
