Hans Jorgen Jacobsen beat Ulric Regis by PTS in round 8 of 8

  • Date: 1969-01-28
  • Location: Forum, Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Referee: Ejner Roth

Danish heavyweight Hans Jorgen Jacobsen ( 20-3-0 ) got revenge for a TKO loss to Ulric Regis (8-6-0 )of Trinidad the previous October. It was however a win with a bitter taste. Regis clowned around the ring, making the spectators laugh, leaving Jacobsen embarrased. A light punch from Jacobsen, sent Regis down, laying stretched out on his back apparently knocked out. Referee Ejner Roth counted and reached 9. Then Regis suddenly jumped off the ground grinning. This happened twice.

An outraged reporter in newspaper Berlingske Tidende felt that a police investigation would have been quite appropriate. " It was also lamentable that referee Roth didn't intervene and instructed the visitor that 7000 people were out there, wanting some kind of value for their hard earned money. That's what ring referees are for ".

Ulric Regis died later in 1969 after a bout with Joe Bugner.
