Harry Schuman was born in Warsaw, Poland, of Hebrew heritage. Although his exact date is unknown, he was reported to be 20-years-old by the February 28, 1919 Tacoma News Tribune.
When the United States entered World War I in April 1917, he enlisted in the Marines four days later.
In late 1918 his family's home was Cheyenne, Wyoming. [1]. By January 1919 he had made Tacoma, Washington, his new residence and Eddie Marino his new manager. [2]. (He had met Marino at Mare Island, California in late 1918 when Marino was the boxing instructor at the marine barracks. [3]) Schuman's previous manager had been L. E. Tissman. [4]
The Sept. 25, 1920 Tacoma News Tribune reported that, four years earlier, Schuman had been a Denver newsboy. When he began boxing, he always was on preliminary bouts only, so he was advised to move away from Denver to help his boxing career. He first moved to Salt Lake City, where he fought as "Heinie Schuman," then went to fight in Tacoma, Washington. In two of the highlights in his career-Schuman won The Pacific Coast Lightweight Title in 1919 and The Pacific Coast Welterweight Title in 1922. And the Rocky Mountain Welterweight Title in 1922 also. Won the Welterweight Championship of The Army, Navy and Marine Corp in January 1919.

According to the U.S., Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010 database on Ancestry.com, one Heine Shuman was born on "November" 22, 1899 and died on October 25, 1974. He enlisted on July 1, 1918 and was discharged on February 20, 1919.
According to the JewishGen Worldwide Burial Registry database on the Ancestry.com website, one Heine Shuman was born on December 22, 1899 and died on October 25, 1974. He was buried in the Mt. Sinai Congregation of the Cheyenne Cemetery Complex, which is located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. His Hebrew name was Menachem ben reb Avraham Yosef. Note- According to the Find A Grave website, Shuman was buried in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery, which is located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
It appears that Heine Shuman had an older brother named Harry, who was a tailor.
