Harry Finch was born 26 Mar 1881 at the General Lying-in Hospital, 85 York Road, Lambeth, South London, the eldest son of John Finch and Amy (nee) Merrett who lived nearby in Clapham. He was married 4 Oct 1903 to Matilda Jane (Ginnie) Crouch.
