The Boston Globe reported that Greb literally buried Captain Bob under an avalanche of blows. Roper could do nothing to keep from getting hit. On the other hand the soldier landed some good blows himself. "At no time in the 10 rounds did Roper look to have a chance." The Pittsburgh Post additionally reported that it was a fast, clean battle and Roper suffered a severe eye cut in the first round.
