Pro Boxer: Record
Harry Mason fought professionally from 1920 to 1937, and in 208 bouts compiled a record of 140 - 52 - 14 with two no decisions. (British Boxing Year Book 1988). Of English-Hebrew heritage, Mason defeated twelve different fighters who held British, European or South African lightweight and welterweight titles. They were UK champions Seaman Nobby Hall, Ernie Rice, Jack Hood, Mike Honeyman, Hamilton Johnny Brown, Fred Webster, Ernie Izzard, Harry Corbett, Alex Ireland, Jack Casey, and South Africans George "Panther" Purchase, and Oscar Jacobson. Mason won the European and BBB of C lightweight championship in 1923-won it back again in 1925 (Without ever losing it in the first place). And then also won the BBB of C welterweight championship in late 1925 and for part of 1925 and 1926 Mason was simultaneously Welterweight Champion of Britain, and the European and British Lightweight Champion. Mason gave up the British Lightweight crown sometime in 1928 and he lost his Welterweight crown in 1926. Unclear if Mason defended his lightweight title after 1926 before finally relinquishing the title in September of 1928. For the rest of his career he campaigned as a welterweight and he regained the Welterweight Championship of Britain in 1934. Even though Mason won the BBBC Lightweight Title and successfully defended the title more than two times-he never received a Lonsdale Belt because none of his title defenses were under the auspices of the National Sporting Club.
(More than half of the linked record was compiled by Miles Templeton.)
