In a non-title bout, European middleweight champion Laszlo Papp faced tough British Harry Scott in a 10- rounder. It was a gory and dramatic fight where Papp showed his age, but also his ability to take punishment and produce sneaking counter punches in an apparently hopeless situation.
Papp started as the aggressor with short punches from all angles. Scott threw classic left jabs in the face of Papp. In the 4th Papp's eyebrow was cut, in the 7th another cut was opened under his right eye. Blood flowed. Scott paraded most of Papp's blows on his shoulders, but in the end of the 7th, a body blow nearly doubled him over. He was saved by the bell. Papp was on another receiving end in the 8th, when a right-left combination to the head shook Scott. From then on, a bloodsmeared Papp attacked a tired Scott with both hands to secure the verdict.
