Notes
- Toney dropped in the WBC rankings from second to fifth early October 2005, then jumped back to second in early December.
- On December 8, WBC announced they would award Hasim Rahman the WBC title (elevating him from the interim status) on December 20, and that purse bid would be held at the same ceremony if Rahman and Toney fail to reach an agreement. Purse would be split 60/40 in favor of Rahman.[1][2]
- On December 20, Rahman's promoter Bob Arum confirmed he had reached a deal with Don King, Toney's promoter, thus avoiding the purse bid.[3]
- Under the agreement, Arum would control the promotion of the fight.
- Rahman retains the title with a draw by winning the final round.
- Judges Tom Kaczmarek and Nobuaki Uratani had Toney leading by one point heading into the 12th.
- There were no knockdowns, but Rahman did suffer a deep cut over his left eye in the 5th that worsened as the fight continued.
- CompuBox stats: Rahman 279/933 (29.9%), power punches 159/554 (28.7%); Toney 263/633 (41.5%), power punches 215/440 (48.9%). Rahman was only 42 punches away from Ike Ibeabuchi's 975 punches thrown by an individual in a heavyweight fight.
