"Hedgemon Lewis, the WBA's No. 4 ranked welterweight contender, scored an easy knockout over Ricky Ortiz, NY, in the 3rd round of their scheduled 10 round match at the Valley Music Theater. The LA fighter got little more than a brisk workout from the veteran Ortiz. Lewis also had Ortiz on his knees midway through the 2nd, when the loser claimed he had been thumbed in the left eye. Referee Bobby Rings permitted Ortiz a rest period to recover but did not penalize Lewis. Lewis floored Ortiz four times in the bout - once in the 1st, twice in the 2nd and once again early in the 3rd." -United Press International
