Harry Braun (sometimes reported as "Brown"), 29 years old, died from injuries sustained in a bout with a Jack Smith, on 21 March, 1898, at Trenton, NJ. Braun was a potter and lived on Behm street with a wife and child. His father was Christian Brown, of Genesee street, working in the rope shop at the Trenton Iron Company.

Trenton State Gazette wrote that he went into the fight because he wanted money for a bicycle, he worked at the Greenwood Pottery, at $12 a week, and was to get $25 for the bout. As a younger man he was locally known as an athlete, and a few years later won at a contest at a picnic the title of the light-weight champion of Trenton. He was also a good wrestler and sprinter. His previous fight was with Corrigan, at the Labor Day picnic, whom he fought to a draw in eight rounds.
