"British heavyweight champion Henry Cooper, blood streaming down his face, rose from the canvas in the last round here Tuesday night and was awarded a point's victory over Alex Miteff of Argentina. The crowd of 12,000 in Wembley's indoor stadium greeted the decision with a mixture of boos and cheers after a storming finish by the tough Argentinian who, up to the last round, had been outpunched and outboxed by Cooper. Cooper had seemed headed for a decisive victory which would have put him a big step nearer his cherished dream of fighting Floyd Patterson for the world title." -Associated Press
- Alex Miteff accepted this bout on short notice when Cooper's original opponent, Joe Erskine, injured a hand and had to withdraw.
- Miteff was scheduled to box one week later in Cleveland against Pete Rademacher, but withdrew due to suffering corneal ulcers. Willi Besmanoff substituted against Rademacher on the Cleveland show.
