"British heavyweights scored a double victory over American opponents Monday night when British and Empire champion Henry Cooper beat Wayne Bethea of NY. Cooper made full use of his classic left hand against Bethea, a very strong but somewhat ungainly opponent, and for the first seven rounds exploited it to the utmost. The crowd was apprehensive when Cooper suffered a cut beneath his right eye in the 1st round and another high up on his scalp in the 3rd. Meanwhile, Bethea was warned by referee Jack Lord for butting in the 2nd round. The American got another warning for the same offense in the 4th session. Bethea was warned again in the 9th session for butting and low-hitting, and appeared hurt after catching a left and right to the head. He came back to give a strong and spirited display, but Cooper's better boxing carried the Britisher to a deserved decision." -United Press International
