"Venezuela's Alfredo Marcano, 128 3/4, became the new world champion in the junior lightweight class, as he knocked out Hiroshi Kobayashi, 129 1/4, Japan, in 10 see-saw rounds of a scheduled 15 rounder. A towel was tossed in by the defending champ's manager, Shinichi Nakamura, after Kobayashi visited the canvas twice in that round. In round nine some 4,000 customers got excited, when Kobayashi nailed the newcomer against the ropes, battered him and made Marcano take the mandatory eight count. Suddenly thereafter a right uppercut caught the button of Kobayashi and down he went for the compulsory eight." -Ring Magazine, November 1971 issue
