"Pone Kingpetch of Thailand, won the world flyweight title for an unprecedented third time Thursday night on a split decision over Japan's Hiroyuki Ebihara, who had knocked him out in one round last September. Pone fought one of the finest ring battles of his career, pacing himself in the steaming 90 degree heat of Rajdamnern Stadium while 10,000 wildly partisan fans cheered. Using a flicking left jab as his most effective weapon, Pone, 27, marched to victory against his 23-year-old Japanese southpaw opponent." -Associated Press
